THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW

The houselights dimmed, the voice of Rachel Dratch greeted us in the shadows, and a single spotlight illuminated a hypnotizing version of Juliette Lewis as she sang the opening line of Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show

“ Michael Rennie was ill the day the earth stood still, but he told us where we stand, and Flash Gordon was there in silver underwear!”

It was like being greeted by a long lost old time friend. To say we were impressed by this production would be an understatement. It stayed true to the original 1974 production, yet somehow managed to be even better, and otherworldly.

The set design, created by dots ( previously of the new smash Broadway play OH MARY! ) was astounding. The way they depicted the exterior of the mansion, illuminating throughout the entirety of the theater was genius.

From the second you enter into the theater, you are not entering into a lobby, you are being transported into Dr. Frank N Furter’s mansion. Greeted by green illuminated chandeliers, decor reminiscent of the interior we know and love, and the staircase to the mezzanine clad in animal print; which ties into the same staircase used in the production.

Luke Evans was a revelation as Dr. Frank N Furter; staying true to the originality of the character, yet elevating it ever so slightly. What immediately stood out to us was the hair design. So good, we want to kind of adopt that style ourselves. It was giving a deranged, sewer rat version of tbe early Billie Eilish green rooted trademark hair.

We would say there was a stand out from this production; which will surely win Best Revival Of A Musical at this years Tony Awards; but there isn’t. Each and every cast member brought something magical to the stage; that without them, it wouldn’t quite be the same.

The one and only criticism we have on this production is that the run is far too short, and we want it to have an infinite extended run. It was MADE for the legendary Studio 54, and we whole, ghastly hearted believe that Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show should inhabit this venue for as long as this earth stands still.
